Foxing throughout but a good, solid working copy. Original boards with repair to spine. Includes accounts of journeys and findings undertaking a geological survey of parts of New Zealand. Author was an important geologist and geographer, his observations both scientific and physical. Also the book has a good section on Maori. NZNB 2627.

All plates are present, there is only slight foxing on the edges. The text is in German. An important, early, and well-illustrated account of the geology of New Zealand. Condition: the binding is original, the spine is detached, old name and date on title page.

Gilt titles on spine and oval motif on front. In very nice condition. Marbled page edges with top edges discoloured. Contents tight with all engravings present and maps in very tidy condition. Some foxing, particularly to tissues. Some discolouration to the colour plates. No inscriptions. This is a very heavy book so please check postage with bookseller. Hochstetter spent one year in NZ, leaving in January 1860. This book contains vivid descriptions of his New Zealand travels, geological observations, and encounters with Maori and Pakeha individuals and communities.
