Paul Karrer shared the Nobel Prize in Chemistry "for his investigations on carotenoids, flavins and vitamins A and B2". Albert von Szent-Györgyi was awarded the Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine "for his discoveries in connection with the biological combustion processes, with special reference to vitamin C and the catalysis of fumaric acid". Cecil of Chelwood, Viscount (Lord Edgar Algernon Robert Gascoyne Cecil) was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize "for his tireless effort in support of the League of Nations, disarmament and peace". The Nobel lectures by Davisson, Thomson, Haworth, and Viscount Cecil of Chelwood are in English. The Nobel lectures by Karrer, and Szent-Györgyi are in German. Roger Martin du Gard was awarded the Nobel Prize in Literature "for the artistic power and truth with which he has depicted human conflict as well as some fundamental aspects of contemporary life in his novel-cycle Les Thibault".
