circa 21,6 x 14,5 cm. 1 Blatt verso weiss "Leiningen-W. 74, I (mit Abbildung); Warnecke 379. Hier das seltene, grösste von vier Formaten dieses Exlibris. Der aus Brüx (Most) in Böhmen stammende Kaufmann und Humanist Dernschwam de Hradiczin (1494-1568) ist heute vor allem durch das Tagebuch seiner Orientreise bekannt. Von seiner bedeutenden Büchersammlung wurden 651 Bände im Jahr 1568 von der kaiserlichen Bibliothek in Wien übernommen. - "Dernschwam hat in Leipzig, Wien und Rom studiert. Er gehörte zu dem Wiener Humanistenkreis im Gefolge Balbins. Als Prinzenerzieher in Budapest und Preßburg kam er mit Hans und Georg Thurzo und Jakob Fugger in Verbindung und trat vermutlich schon 1518 in Thurzos Kupferbergbau in Neusohl (Slowakei, Banska Bystrica) ein. Seit seinem erfolgreichen Eingreifen bei dem Budapester Aufstand gegen die Fugger-Faktorei 1525 übernahm er die vom König an die Fugger verpachteten Kupfergruben als leitender Faktor in Neusohl bis zur Auflösung des Vertrages 1546. Er bereiste wiederholt Ungarn und zeichnete, neben seiner handelspolitischen Tätigkeit, auch römische Inschriften auf. 1549 schied er aus den Fuggerschen Diensten, blieb aber in der Slowakei (Oberungarn) und von da aus mit den deutschen Humanisten bis an den Rhein in Briefwechsel und Büchertausch. Noch im Alter von 59 Jahren schloß er sich aus freiem Willen der kaiserlichen Gesandtschaft zum türkischen Sultan an und hat über diese mehr als 2jährige Reise ein Tagebuch handschriftlich hinterlassen, dessen Bedeutung wegen der darin enthaltenen wirtschafts- und kulturpolitischen Beobachtungen zu seiner Zeit durch die erste, 1555 darin aufgezeichnete, Abschrift des Monumentum Ancyranum des Kaisers Augustus gesteigert wurde."
