The letters from Gilbey concern the request he has received from the Royal Agricultural Society to write an article on the two Wolstenholmes. Other letters relating to the Wolstenholmes are 3 from J.H. Yoxall (1857-1923), relating to Baxter prints (with copies of Wolstenholme's replies); the art dealer Harry Arbuthnot and others including a 4-page letter from the House-boy Brigade and Industrial Printing Works. Thirty pieces in all including 12 in their postally used envelopes.

First edition hard back binding in publisher's original terracotta cloth covers, gilt lettering to the spine, gilt lettering and gilt Hay Carting scene to the upper panel, black paper end papers. 8vo 8½'' x 6'' xx, 154 [pages.]. Colour frontispiece and one colour plate, 13 single-sided monochrome illustrations throughout. A little fox splashing to some pages throughout, slight darkening to the edges of the boards, firm and tight hinges and in Very Good sound condition, no dust wrapper as issued. Sir Walter Gilbey also became well known as a breeder of shire horses, and he did much to improve the breed of English horses (other than race-horses) generally, and wrote extensively on the subject, including the encyclopedic 'Animal Painters of England From the Year 1650: A brief history of their lives and works'. He became president of the Shire Horse Society, of the Hackney Horse Society, and of the Hunters Improvement Society, and he was the founder and chairman of the London Cart Horse Parade Society. He was also a practical agriculturist, and president of the Royal Agricultural Society. He was appointed a deputy lieutenant of Essex in 1906. Member of the P.B.F.A. AGRICULTURE & FARMING.
