The novel is set in post Civil War Kentucky and centers on a young Major in John Hunt Morgan's Raiders, who returns to his ancestral home near Lexington. Filled with horse races, duels, thoroughbreds, and outlaws, and sheds some light on the problems of Reconstruction.
