Boards have light shelf-wear with corner bumping. Slight crushing to spine ends. Clipped jacket has heavy edgewear with areas of loss, heavy tears, chips, and creasing. Light tanning to spine and edges. Water staining to rear panel and inside front panel. Wear marks and foxing overall.

The author was apparently the inspiration for Kipling's 'Stalky'. He was commisioned into the army in 1884 and during WWI led an Allied force across present-day Iraq.
