Hardcover. Condition: Very Good. No Jacket. 2nd Edition. The 274 page hard bound book appears to be the second edition, but most interesting is the apparent autograph on page 7 by Boston Red Sox manager Joe Cronin. There are some small surface marks on the front cover, and a small black mark on the inside cover, both of these can be seen on the accompanying photographs, as well as the Joe Cronin s autograph on page 7. Hardcover. Condition: Fair. No Jacket. First Edition Later Printing. Sequel to the author's popular first book, "Play Ball, Son!", in 274 pages with profuse black-and-white photos on glossy paper throughout text. Dunne (1903-1966) has SIGNED this copy with a personalized inscription on the ffep to a youngster, Al Benton, followed by a penciled note from the recipient detailing how he received the book in 1951 when he was a "visiting clubhouse boy in San Diego P.C.L." Benton would go on to become a major league baseball player himself, so this is a scarce association copy between two baseball greats! Orig. published in 1947, this is a 1951 printing of that First Edition. Hardcover small 8vo has light blue cloth-covered boards stamped with black lettering & front & spine. Because of external rubbing & soiling, condition is downgraded to Fair. Interior is generally quite clean, with a few random spots. Pages tanned with some light pencil underlining & marginal notes. Octavo. [1-5-]6-146 pages. Photographs By C.C. Putney. Joe Cronin, Manager of the Boston Red Sox writes an introduction entitled: The Dugout. Inscribed by the author to Lee "Flame" Delhi who he writes: "one of the greatest pictures of poetry in motion I ever saw." Delhi was the first Arizona born player to play in the Major Leagues. His papers are held by ASU Special Collections. The author discussed the keys to hitting with Ty Cobb who explains how he watched successful hitters who came up with these principles. His discussion with Joe DiMaggio illustrates them. Much of the advice would not be appropriate in the modern baseball world but what he says about hitting has some sound principles. Bound in green cloth lettered in gilt, spine lettering gilt but fading, lacks front and rear endpapers, some finger soiling. A good copy of a scarce baseball book.
