The brick red , cloth cover is without blemish. There are no visible condition issues to note. The interior of the book has a previous owners bookplate on the front pastedown and an inked owners name on the ffep, otherwise the book itself is in flawless condition. The dust jacket show just a little wear along the top and bottom edges of the wrapper with two small tears to the back bottom. The jacket is now protected with a mylar cover. Edwin Thompson Denig was a fur trader on the Upper Missouri River during the later years of the American fur era. He was married to an Indian woman and was a perceptive observer of the Indian way of life throughout the area. He assisted several important visitors to the plains, including James Audubon. Denig recorded his thoughts and observations in manuscript form but never saw his work published. Editor, John C. Ewers has brought Denig's work into publication here for the first time. 217 pages.
