Slight rubbing at spine ends and corner tips with faint fading at spine, otherwise sound, very good.

Couverture souple. Condition: Très bon. Edition originale. Petit in-4 (250 x175 mm), IV-271pp. 2 planches couleurs hors-texte en exergue avec une citation de Paul Claudel. Imprimé en noir et rouge. L'oeuvre se compose de 3 parties constituant le Livre Premier : Le Caveau de l'enfer (Avènement de Madeleine), L'Arche du purgatoire (La passion de Madeleine) et La Flèche du paradis (La Croix de Madeleine). Le Livre Second est intitulé Le Mystère de l'amour, suite Hors-texte pour un vitrail d'Abside à la gloire de Madeleine. Très bel envoi autographe du poète à la romancière Jeanne Lenglin, daté de juillet 1949. « Charles Corm, né à Beyrouth le 4 mars 1894, est le fils du premier peintre libanais de renom, Daoud Corm. Tout jeune homme, en 1919, il fonde et dirige La Revue Phénicienne, la première publication de langue française, tribune politico-culturelle de la scène libanaise de l'époque. À la suite d'un voyage en Amérique, il prend la représentation de Ford pour le Proche-Orient. Se déplaçant sans cesse entre ses agences disséminées dans la région, il vivra au plus près le drame arménien tout spécialement en Cilicie et dans le Sandjak. À partir de 1934, il se consacre pleinement à la littérature et publie alors La Montagne inspirée, une ode à son pays et son oeuvre la plus connue. En 1939, il monte en grande partie à ses frais le premier pavillon du Liban à l'Exposition Universelle de New-York, un spectaculaire panorama du patrimoine national. Il contribuera également à la fondation de la Bibliothèque Nationale ainsi que du Musée National de Beyrouth, mais ne cessera d'écrire, surtout de la poésie, jusqu'à la fin de sa vie en 1963. Son message à ses compatriotes a toujours été humaniste et universel. Pour Charles Corm, l'histoire et les racines d'un peuple non seulement forgent son identité, mais surtout lui permettent de survivre : s'il remet ses aïeux phéniciens à l'honneur, c'est parce "qu'avant de devenir chrétiens ou musulmans, ils n'étaient qu'un même peuple uni dans une même gloire". » (Editions de la Revue Phénicienne).
