Jean Baptist Belot (1822-1904) was a French Jesuit and Orientalist. After entering the Jesuit order, he moved to Algeria, where he learned to speak Arabic. Fascinated by the language he published several books on it. In 1865 or 1866 he moved to Beirut, where he soon took over the Jesuit Catholic press, of which he was in charge until 1898. He was also the editor of the first Catholic magazine in the Arab world Al-Basi?r. Belot was publishing in the Arabic language until his death in 1904. This is the first part out of five, of which all were issued separately over the next years. References: OCLC 4.
