This copy is bright, tight, white and square. there is a neat inscription to the f.e.p. This copy has been signed 'Viola Apsley 1936' on the title page. A dustwrapper is not present. Violet Emily Mildred Bathurst, Lady Apsley, CBE (née Meeking; 29 April 1895 - 19 January 1966) was a British Conservative Party politician. Upon the death of her husband, Lord Apsley, she succeeded him as Member of Parliament (MP) for Bristol Central in a 1943 by-election. She held the seat until 1945 when it was taken by Labour. Apsley gained her pilot's licence in 1930 and served in the Auxiliary Territorial Service during the Second World War, resigning her commission after being elected to Parliament. In 1930 she had a hunting accident which left her permanently disabled and unable to walk. Her maiden speech in parliament was made from her wheelchair. The author talks of the history of hunting, and also has alot of information on side saddle riding. The authors sole intention is to do a little directing towards the bridleways in places where I have myself enjoyed a hunt.
