There is a former owner's bookplate on the front pastedown. This volume presents the journal of Leonard E. Harrington. Harrington was the mayor of American Fork, Utah for 29 years. The second portion of the volume concerns the State of Deseret, addressing many misconceptions of the origins of government in Utah, and exploring lesser-known sequels to that first government in the forty-five year struggle for statehood.

The spine is mildly soiled, and there is a 1/4 inch closed tear in the paper at the foot of the spine. The inside margins of the pages are sporadically a little sticky and adhered, and occasionally they have small tears and abraded areas in the paper, from having been pulled apart. This does not affect the text. The text block is fragile in several places.
