About this Item
Hand coloured etching (?), possibly not in British Museum. 'There's no living in England, so heres off for Canada'. Red nosed drunkard with squashed hat, holey green britches and blue tail coat, with his wife on back with a girl on her back, and a child nursing, stride towards boat, a dog looking up carrying an umbrella. The vessel sports a pennant on the mast: 'For Canada', and the immigrant may be walking away from the White Cliffs of Dover. Good strong hand colouring, minor tears and discoloration to edges, but a rare evocation of one of the most important periods in Canadian history. Seller Inventory # ewephjk408
