Eine Künstlergemeinschaft by Ernst Ludwig Kirchner , circa 1926-27. Schmidt-Rottluff is pictured on the right. Karl Schmidt together with Erich Heckel , Ernst Ludwig Kirchner and Fritz Bleyl formed the artist group Brücke in Dresden in 1905 . It was then that he added the name Rottluff, after the birthplace. Also Emil Nolde and Max Pechstein later joined Brücke, as did Otto Mueller . In 1911 the group moved to Berlin, so did Schmidt-Rottluff. In Berlin, since 1910 Brücke was affiliated with the Neue Secession, an expressionist-oriented organization with joint exhibitions. Previously, the group had been members of the Berlin Secession , which, however, could not accept the new expressionist style. But there was also a split in the Neue Secession and the entire Brücke group left the organization at the end of 1911. Over time, the Brücke members developed increasingly in different directions, and the group finally disbanded in 1913. Seller Inventory # 23692
