Circa 1895 York Confectionary Co mpany Limited. Wholesale & Export Confectioners, York. Original uncoloured lithographic advertising design proof, most likely by Ben Johnson & Company of York; though possibly George McCorquodale of Leeds, as this came to us as part of a collection of works by both printers. Single sided and fixed down to brown mounting paper at rear. Print measures approx. 7.75" x 5" (19.5cm x 13cm). York Confectionery Company was founded in 1867 in Fossgate, later moving to the Nunthorpe Peel Works until 1909, when the Company owner, a man by the name of Henderson, was declared bankrupt. Tanning to flanks and upper margins, with some light creasing and rippling, and a heavier (circa 0.75"/ 2cm) crease at upper edge, just right of centre. Otherwise, rear mount has a pinhole and a 1cm edge tear. Remains a nice original example nonetheless.
