About this Item
Copper plate print dated august, 1785. The engraving measures 12.75 cm x 17.5 cm including plate mark title engraved. - over all with text 23cm x 33cm. Engraved by Sparrow for Grose's Antiquities of England and Wales from a drawing by Grose in 1780 Notes: The site remained owned by the church until 1552 when John Poynet, Bishop of Winchester surrendered the manor to the Crown. It was then granted to Sir Philip Hoby and subsequently passed through numerous private owners but the ruined castle was never rebuilt and little now remains other than earthworks and small amounts of masonry. The grounds were used for military training during both World Wars. [For all of our prints by Francis Grose enter PRBGROSE in Key words] [QP]. Seller Inventory # 010142
