Lithograph on wove paper. on paper. Size in cm: The overall size is ca. 27.3 x 22 cm. The image size is ca. 20.5 x 15.5 cm. Size in inch: The overall size is ca. 10.7 x 8.7 inch. The image size is ca. 8.1 x 6.1 inch.Antique print, titled: 'Environs de Leyden.' - A landscape near the Dutch city Leiden, with a Trekschuit (a horse-drawn boat). Three windmills to the left and the city in the background. This scarse plate originates from: 'Voyage Pittoresque dans le Royaume des Pays-Bas.', by Mr. De Cloet, published in Bruxelles, 1825.Artists and Engravers: Made by 'Jean Baptiste Madou' after 'Gl. de Howen'. This plate drawn on stone by Madou, printed by Jobard. Jean Baptiste Madou (1796-1877) originated from Brussels. He is considered to be one of the pioneers of lithography in Belgium. Ambroise Jobard (active around 1830) was a Belgian lithographer, active in Brussels and Amsterdam. Otto Baron de Howen (1774-1848) was born in an influential Russian family. He joined the Russian army but fell out of grace with the court. In 1799 he came to the Netherlands to join the artillery of the Batavian Republic, where he rose to the rank of Luietenant-General. He sometimes used the name Ant(h)on.Condition: Fair, given age. The image area quite foxed and with discoloration around the image. The margins lightly foxed.
