About this Item
We offer a signed exhibition poster for André Kertész's 1982 show Master of Photography at the Chrysler Museum. The poster is matted with a 19 ½ x 15 ½ window and housed in a gold tone frame with the outside dimensions 29 ¼ x 24 ¼ . It is signed, dated and initialed in the lower quarter of the poster in ink: July 8, 1982, To Jim, A. Kertész. and initialed under the photograph A.K. André Kertész (1894-1985) was a seminal photographer with a diverse body of work that included straightforward photojournalism, as well as, unorthodox, abstracted still lifes. He was born in Budapest, Hungary and initially worked as a stock broker. After serving briefly in WWI, Kertész moved to Paris and then later fled to the United States. He worked as a well-regarded commercial photographer for decades, while maintaining a robust fine art photographic practice. In 1984 the Metropolitan Museum of Art purchased 100 prints by Kertész, its largest acquisition of work from a living artist. His work is in the collections of major institutions all over the world. Condition: Lightly sunned (only visible because we removed the mat and the color is slightly more vibrant at the very edges), otherwise good condition with the date and signatures quite readable.
