About this Item
C. 1800 print of General Alexander Suvorov, Generalissimo of the Russian Army. Printed in Paris by Paul André Basset either in 1796-1799 or 1805-1806, based on his business address. Hand-colored, framed print measures approximately 18 x 14.25 . In good condition, with slight staining and foxing to the print. Slight rip along one edge. Colors have been preserved well and text is perfectly readable. In either original or early 1800s matte. Slight scratches and scuffing to edges of frame. The illustration has not been inspected outside of the frame. Please see photos and ask any questions prior to purchasing. Alexander Suvorov (1730-1800) was a celebrated Russian military officer who rose to the rank of Generalissimo by his death. Towards the end of his career he fought the French throughout Italy and Switzerland during the French Revolutionary Wars. A unique and scarce illustration from the era.
