Dark pink cloth binding with small silver outline of nude on front cover, PO FFEP, end papers split but still solid, very little toning, last few pages uncut. Spine fading but quite readable, very little shelf wear. Volumes I and II. 35 incredible full page B & W illustrations by W. Heath Robinson plus many small illustrations often between chapters. Although not much is known about Rabelais, his rollicking and uninhibited tale of the giant Gargantua and his son leaves us with the impression that he was a man of keen satiric wit and a tremendous enthusiasm for life.
