Vintage borderless reference photograph from the 1943 film, showing director Sam Wood speaking with actors Ingrid Bergman, Lilo Yarsen, Katina Paxinou, and Gray Cooper on the set. Printed mimeo snipe affixed to the verso, along with the stamps of PIX Agency and the Westport Public Library. From the archive of the PIX Agency, a photo house that acted as an intermediary between émigré photographers (as well as those still living in Europe) and the American magazine and newspaper market between 1935-1969. Based on Ernest Hemingway's 1940 novel, which follows the experiences of an American fighting against the fascists in the Spanish Civil War, and his relationship with a young guerrilla fighter. Nominated for nine Academy Awards, winning one for Best Supporting Actress for Katina Paxinou. Set and shot on location in Spain. 9.5 x 7.5 inches.
