About this Item
Charles Major, writing under the pseudonym of Edwin Caskoden, was the author of When Knighthood Was in Flower. It was his first novel and was an immediate success. This was the novel that engendered the late 19th and early 20th centuries craze for historical fiction. Major said of Roselle Knott's performance as Mary Tudor, that, ".she stepped right out of my book". The beautiful Roselle Knott was a famous actress widely admired by critics and beloved by the public. There are two excellent photo portraits of her in costume as Mary Tudor - one the frontispiece and the other within the text. There are several photographic views and drawings done from photographs of the play in progress. What a fine piece of stage history this is. ************************************* SERIES : The Theatre Edition Series / TITLE : When Knighthood Was in Flower, or, The Love Story of Charles Brandon and Mary Tudor, the King's Sister, and Happening in the Reign of his August Majesty, King Henry the Eighth .
