Blue cloth with gilt sp. lettering, no obvious faults, top edge of text-block black. f/piece on light brown stiff papers (as end-papers) xx + 556, 2 text ills: one a drawing, the other a full opening facs. of a letter, 18 ills on 8 pp. plate block ex-pagination. This is an ex-public library copy but only 2 round stamps verso t.p., another to facing half-title and thin strip of white loan-sheet edge to centre by gutter fr. end-paper less than 8 mm wide at max. Unclipped jacket in protective sleeve as acquired appears to be clean and unworn, but small 3 digit lib no. to base of spine.
