George Ade called Mason "the high priest of horse sense", Sir Arthur Conan Doyle pronounced him "delightful", while James Whitcomb Riley enthused over the "facetious, capricious, delicious poems of Walt Mason". Mary Roberts Rinehart explained "I have Walt Mason and coffee every morning, and one is as necessary as the other, but coffee gives me heartburn and Walt doesn't".
