About this Item
1689 Thevenot Voyages CHINA Persia IRAQ Ottoman TURCS Islam Egypt Pyramids RARE Jean de Thevenot was a 17th-century French voyager whose expeditions to the Middle East were extensively recorded in his travel journals. Beginning in 1655, Thevenot traveled throughout the Greek Isles, Egypt, Syria, Mesopotamia, and Persia spending large amounts of time in Palestine, Constantinople, and Egypt. His second voyage, which began in 1663, took him through the Holy Land and Mesopotamia, Persia, as well as through parts of modern-day Iran and Iraq. It is worth noting though, that early French editions of this work included particular Americana interest, with the first printed account of Marquette and Joliet expeditions. (Sabin 95332).
