A Voyage Round the World, in the Years MDCCXL, I, II, III, IV (1740-1744) by George Anson, Commander in Chief of a Squadron of His Majesty's Ships, sent upon an Expedient to the South-Seas. Compiled from his Papers and Materials by Richard Walter. The SEVENTH edition. With three multi-paneled fold-out charts of the Track of the Centurian round the World, Part of the Pacific Ocean, and the Southern part of South America. Charts are intact and mostly attached; the chart of the Pacific Ocean has a 1 7/8" diagonal closed tear where it is attached to the gutter. Very good leather bound book. Five raised bands on spine, one compartment with red leather label with gilt border and lettering; 5 compartments with small gilt floral design and edging. External page edges are red-speckled but also age-and soil-darkened. Spine folds are scuffed and with several cracks. Edges at head and tail of spine are softened and with some loss on the corners. Board edges are scuffed; fore-edge corner tips are turned in and rubbed through at the tips. Endpapers are soiled and stained and with misc. numbers jotted. Bookplate of Downfield on the front paste-down. The FFEP is 3/5 separated from the gutter. Previous owner's name on title page. There is a break in page numbering after page 205, then numbered 304-548 with catchword matching. Four pages of ads at the back. Text pages are age-toned and with occasional smudges and small stains.
