A pleasant period Irish edition of an account of George Barrington, a notorious pickpocket finally sentenced to transportation to Botany Bay in 1790. He was appointed "Superintendant of Convicts" by Governor Phillip after he prevented the ship being seized by the convicts on the voyage out. Clearly, a man of charm, leadership and cunning. In 1792, he was the first to receive a certificate of emancipation and later appointed the high constable of Paramatta. Subtitle; "As likewise Authentic Anecdotes of the Most Distinguished Characters, and Notorious convicts that have been transported to Botany Bay. By George Barrington, Principal Superintendant of the Convicts. To which is annexed His Life and Trial." 12mo, xvi, 13pp (Life), 15-244pp (Voyage), printed on laid paper.
