Condition: Fair. 1939. First Published in GB. 290 pages. No dust jacket. This is an ex-Library book. Black cloth. Former hospital library copy, with plate to front pastedown and card pocket to rear. Black and white photographic plates throughout, all present as expected. Binding remains firm. Pages have light tanning and foxing throughout. Plates are bright and clear, with some light tanning and foxing to edges. Occasional small brown liquid marks to margins, with notable liquid stains to pp3-10 not affecting the text. Previous owner's inscription to front endpaper. Small modern sticker to front pastedown. Boards have light shelf-wear with corner bumping. Light tanning to spine and edges with crushing to spine ends. Splits to spine ends causing cloth to be frayed. Light mottling and several small pale marks overall. Gilt is bright. Original black cloth binding with gilt titles to spine and blind stamped figure of head to front board in very good condition with a few tiny marks to boards. Inside a few spots of foxing to free end papers otherwise all pages and plates in very good/near fine condition, clean and bright. A very good copy of this 1st UK Edition(American edition first published, 1938, under the title: Tell my horse.) Zora Hurston was one of the leaders of the literary renaissance happening in Harlem which developed into the Harlem renaissance spanning the 1920s and 1930 in New York. Scarce.
