About this Item
Oblong Folio (13 1/2 x 20"). 98pp. Original maquette with black binders tape at top edge, photograph pasted to cover and black lettering on cover. This work is an attempt to provide an overview and documentation of the changes of the street as a defined space due to the invention of the car and its use for transportation. The report, a student project, was originally submitted by two students at the Pedagogic College Berlin in the winter semester 1978/79. It investigates the change of the streetscape in Berlin from the early 20th century through the late 1970s, with projections of changes into the 1990s. The report is divided into four parts: 1. the general development of the city and traffic in the BRD, 2. the specific situation in Berlin, 3. the changes of the streetscape in Berlin, and 4. evaluation of the investigation with outlooks on contemporary traffic and its future as well as the change of consciousness in the city, tools for improvement and proposals for the future. The report is profusely illustrated with original drawings, one three part overlay, photographs, color photomontages, newspaper clippings of text, photographs and city maps. Part three, illustrating the changes in the Berlin cityscape, consists mainly of photographs, montages and drawings pasted to heavy stock black paper, at times two glued back to back, with manual calligraphy describing the presentation. The text in the three other parts of the report is presented on typed pages pasted to heavy white paper stock, mostly two 11 1/2 x 8 1/4" pages next to each other on front and on verso. Contains one handwritten, penciled commentary, presumably that of a teacher, questioning the presented data on page 5. Text in German. Very light wear along edges. Binding and interior in overall very good condition. Seller Inventory # 40184
