Catalogue of an exhibition of paintings completed under extraordinary conditions in a Japanese prisoner of war camp by Charles Thrale, a British serviceman and member of the X8 Tunnelling Party. Thrale painted hundreds of images depicting the everyday life of POWs ina Japanese prisoner of war camp. He used human hair, jungle roots, clay, crushed pencil lead, rice water, blood, crushed leaves, brass polish and painted on tissue paper, Japanese Field Cards, wrapping paper, musical scores, and anything else he could get his hands on. After the war, Thrale wrote a narrative to accompany the paintings, and took them on tour for a number of years. This is a catalogue of one of those tours and it includes prints of a few of Thrale's paintings. Scarce. Seller Inventory # 007179
