COLE, J.F.A. VIEW OF SOUTH BOSTON 1859. Boston: J.F.A. Cole, 1859. 22 3/4"X 32". Hand colored lithograph view of South Boston looking north from Telegraph Hill (the site of the Fortification of Dorchester Heights by Henry Knox during the seige of Boston) toward Beacon Hill. The old reservoir can be seen to the left. Today one would be looking at the front of South Boston High School from this location. Includes five inset views of homes of prominent citizens and Fort Independence. Lightly toned overall with a few scoring marks from previous wood backing and faint dampstaining in upper right hand corner. A nicely repaired 4-inch closed tear in upper right corner.
