Donohue edition hardcover, bound in dark blue cloth, with an illustrated paper inset on front cover, darkened gilt lettering on front cover, and extremely-faded and in places gone, gilt lettering on spine, is in POOR condition, having a tearing to the front cover inset illustration, at top right corner, and much scratching and abrasion to same picture; former owner/bookseller has attemped a fix to the binding (looks like pages may have become loose some time ago), and they apparently somehow re-glued the pages into the spine, resulting in some tightness to some pages, but all text appears to be present; when book viewed from the vertical closed page edge side, one can see the slight uneveness of sections of pages re-glued (see photo); top and bottom spine show some wear; some stains to front cover, while back cover is extremely marked with some children's paint and very scuffed; front cover and spine also scuffed; interior pages show much use by children: a few stains, some torn pieces at bottom pages (beginning about p. 149 and continuing to end), but tears are in the bottom margin and do not affect the text; overall much handling wear to pages, which are also of a very inexpensive grade bordering on newsprint. Book is illustrated with color plates by Edward Bloomfield, and with endpapers drawn by Eloise Burns. Children's fiction. Classics. DB. Seller Inventory # 1761
