4 2/8 in. x 5 5/8 in., half-title and title-page, with title printed in black letter, and the Pickering version of the Aldine anchor printer's mark on the title-page: [i]-xiv (introduction by Thomas Wright), [22]pp. of printed black letter text (of "The Tournament", and "The Feast"), preserving the old spellings; [24]pp. of notes on the text, including identifications of the dishes mentioned in the "Feast," and some short recipes in early English spellings, for a few of these dishes. Woodcut initial and two other early woodcut designs are reproduced as head & tail-pieces. Black morocco leather spine and sides with gilt-lettered titling, running vertically on the spine, within a gilt border, glazed, pink paper over boards. The outer covers show fading, wear to cover corners and edges; some tan-spotting present on the text pages, tanning to endpapers. Some lines from the "Feast" (which the notes help to explain): "Ther was meyts wel dight / Well sesoned to the right / Off rost and of sew: Ther was meyts be henen That were a maistre al to nenen / But sum I con yow. Ther was pestels in porra / And laduls in rorra / Ffor potage. And somm saduls in sewys / And mashefatts in mortrewys / Ffor the leefe.age.
