Hardback, approx 9 x 6 inches. Quarterbound in brown cloth to spine and marbled paper to boards. With gilt lettered maroon leather spine label. Speckled edges. In very good condition. Professionally rebacked on spine with later endpapers. Boards rubbed, edges chipped and rubbed. Some occasional foxing spots and handling marks to pages, binding tight and sound. Else overall a very good clean and tight copy. 604pp. + 4pp adverts. ?Lord Cochrane was the greatest fighting captain and admiral that Britain produced and a comparison of his exploits to those of Lord Nelson clearly demonstrates this.? Thomas Cochrane had a truly remarkable career as a naval officer and a politician. After serving with distinction in the Royal Navy during the Napoleonic Wars, he was wrongly jailed for fraud, stripped of his naval rank and parliamentary seat. Amazingly he went on to command the Chilean, Brazilian and Greek navies, helping these countries in their fight for independence. He completed a remarkable comeback when he received a Royal pardon and the restoration of his naval rank. Seller Inventory # 91859
