One of several versions of a famous trial published about the same time in Manchester, Leeds, and London. This Dolby printing is sympathetic to the defendants. Henry Hunt (1773-1835), a radical politician, was arrested as the ringleader of the St. Peter's Fields reform meeting in Manchester, tried at York in March 1820 and, after conducting his own defense, committed to two years' imprisonment. The trial is reported more or less verbatim, including statements by defendants and cross-examination of over 80 witnesses. The Preface, probably written by Dolby, states that this "important Trial will be read and listened to with the liveliest interest wherever there is a spark of humanity or justice to be found."
