About this Item
Large 8vo 9" - 10" tall; 664 pages; 2nd edition, revised with some material added by Henry Bohn. Period brown cloth binding with beveled edges, decorative ruling in black to cover and title design in black and gilt to spine. Pages untrimmed. Small binder's tag of George Alexander to front endpage suggests the book may well have been sold retail in wraps from the printing done in England. Colophon identifies the printer as R. Clay Sons & Taylor of London. Cloth binding is rubbed at board edges with cloth thinning with mild fray at spine ends and slightly rubbed through to the lower front corners. Endpages present and intact. Stout volume is a bit shaken in the spine. Prior ownership and address in manuscript to the front endpage. Profusely illustrated with reproductions of notable and outstanding woodcuts along with demonstration woodcut engravings and woodcuts of the tools, techniques and practice of executing woodcut engraving. A solid, if somewhat worn copy of this superb reference on the woodcut engraver's art. VG- . Oversize book may require additional charges for expedited or international shipping.
