Original brown patterned cloth. 12mo. xii, 260pp, (4), ads. Illustrated. Eighth edition. A controversial early work on this subject by the New York eye-surgeon and lecturer. There are chapters on syphilis and its symptons including chancre; bubo; nose and mouth ulcers; swelling; excrescences; alopecia; transmission by childbirth; its cure by mercury; gonorrhea and its symptons including chordee; prostate inflammation; gleet; stricture; fistulae; phimosis; varicocele; and much more. The last two chapters are devoted to the conditions of spermatorrhea and onanism with much on their dangers and the author's suggested cures. There are 4 engraved plates showing medical instruments patented by the author- the speculum vaginae, a stricture caustic catheter, spermatorrhea catheter, and a polypus ligator. The last 20 pages of the book consist of ads for this and other works by the author. This copy is in very nice condition with some minor soiling and wear to the covers. The text is very good with some light foxing and wear. A few pages have a light dampstain in the upper right corner. A very scarce work. Seller Inventory # 4814
