Small 4to. Hardcover. Pp. 730, plus an index and 28 illustrated plates at the end. Translated from the French by Rev. Henry Hunter. Brown leather binding with patterned border; raised bands on spine, with gilt label and decoration. Cover has slight shelf-wear with faint scuffs and scratches to the leather; marbled fore-edge. Ex-library copy but no stampings; marks left on front end- paper presumably where labels were torn off; the second page from the cover is torn in the bottom right corner. Includes portrait frontispiece, as well as a fold-out map and 28 illustrated plates. Title page tissue guard is detached, and the map is slightly creased around the edges, though unmarked. Pages themselves are clean with no annotations and only light foxing. The author, an engineer in the French army, completed his extensive travels in Egypt in 1780, but delayed publication of the work until 1799. Henry Hunter was a Scottish minister who translated the works of noted scholars including Leonard Euler and Johann Kaspar Lavater. Seller Inventory # 036393
