About this Item
Oblong Quarto. Manec was head of anatomy at the Facultè de Médecine de Paris and a surgeon at the Salpetrière. He wrote the text of his atlas on ligations of arteries in the first person based upon his experience performing the operations. Manec's atlas is illustrated with 13 lithographed plates drawn by Nicolas-Henri Jacob, the illustrator of Jean-Baptiste Bourgery's magnificent multi-volume atlas of human anatomy. In this Brussels edition, each plate and text are elongated with each plate carefully hand-colored. The plates are identical with the First Edition (1832) using Jeremy Norman's number #14180. Each of the hand-colored plates are in fine condition. Plates 12 and 13 are on one sheet with folding ends. Withdrawn in 1925 from the Library of the Medical Society of the County of Kings, else a very good copy with a modern pastedown spine label. cf. NUC, Vol. 358, P. 509 (a 1836 example, shows four copies including copies at the College of Physicians (Philadelphia), University of Michigan, Columbia, Yale. Seller Inventory # 031364
