In good condition. Minor scuffing to boards with light soiling to cloth. Rubbed corners, cloth remains present. Gilt work slightly faded. Gilt top edge remains clean and bright. Interior in lovely condition. Minimal toning, nominal foxing, if any. Binding tight and intact. Unmarked. Please see photos. A truly lovely grande Octavo edition of two important works. Cartonnages dores et colores (gilded and colored bindings). Lavishly decorated cover designed for Christmas and New Year s markets. Nicely illustrated. First editions were published in 1873. we think this is early 1900 s, but we cannot rightfully determine said date. According to Verne s editor Pierre-Jules Hetzel, the goal of the Voyages was to outline all the geographical, geological, physical, historical and astronomical knowledge amassed by modern science and to recount, in an entertaining and picturesque format. the history of the universe Doctor Ox is a collection of short stories by Jules Vernes, it is included as well.
