single page letter dated 16th June 1843, written by A.M. MacDougall and sent to James MacQueen in London. reasonably legible handwriting. good condition [shipping charges will be reduced when this order is processed] James MacQueen was born in Crawford, Lanarkshire in 1778. He was a manager of sugar plantation in Grenada before the age of 20, and later founder of the Royal Mail Steam Packet Company, and a writer on economics, politics and geography. The main body of the short letter refers to MacDougall's decision to stick with the "steam concern"*, and to let MacQueen know that he has drawn upon them for 18 months salary amounting to £187 10/- * this may refer to the Royal Mail Steam Packet Company which was founded by MacQueen in 1839.
