About this Item
"This charming book published in 1912 is in very good condition. There are several prominent spots on the front cover of some undefined nature. There is very slight wear to the corners and also to the spine crown and foot, but otherwise the cover and binding are very nice and the book is tight and secure. The interior of the book is again in at least very good shape with some wear signs. Perhaps this book was issued with the pages uncut and a previous owner has carelessly separated them and left some rather ragged page edges but no pages have their printed material compromised. There is one ink scribble on the back pastedown. This is original text and is neither reprinted nor copied by any fashion. John Burroughs was surely one of the most prominent American personalities during the late 1800's and into the early years of the twentieth century. Only John Muir may have been better known and had more influence through writings on the natural world and the importance of nature to all people. This book appears to be the first publication under this title. The publication of 1912 is on the title page and the copyright page shows 1912 and the notation "Published October 1912." The book features several Burroughs essays with the first titled "Time and Change - - The Long Road" and is a commentary on the growing concerto of evolution and a longer earth time than had been previously understood. Other chapters are titles - - The Spell of the Yosemite, Through the Geologists Eyes, The Friendly Soil, and The Phantoms Behind - - amongst other chapters. 279 pages.". Seller Inventory # 1505-199
