These Rand-McNally printings, carrying only the 1886 copyright date, are often offered as "first editions," though in fact the true first was Umbdenstock, Chicago, 1885 ("exceedingly rare"), followed by the author's own second edition, in which the publishers were listed as Siringo and Dobson, 1886. Adams ("Six-Guns and Saddle Leather" No. 2032) reports this title was "reprinted many times between 1914 and 1926 by various publishers" including Rand, McNally. This is a rebound early printing with color frontispiece, now in modern pebbled black material (possibly leather) with bright gilt titles to front board and spine, where this copy is dated "1886." We give 1914 as our estimated date of actual publication. Though it is interesting that of the three other titles advertised to rear of this volume, the only one we can positively identify as to publication date is Hugh Conway's "Called Back," which Rand-McNally did indeed publish in . . . 1886. Red marbled endpapers; text block "good-plus" with expected moderate age-toning. 347 pp. Here reduced from $280. Seller Inventory # 008908
