About this Item
Tenth in the series, copyright 1929 but this copy lists through No. 15, "Following the Sun Shadow" (1932) both in ads at rear and also to jacket front flap. Jacket rear flap lists 11 Hardy Boys through "While the Clock Ticked" (1932), pretty much clinching our 1932 publication date, here. Book itself is "very good"; no problems with hinges. There is residue where something smaller than a typical bookplate or library attachment has been removed from the front pastedown. Rather than write his name to FFE, previous owner Kirk Denler (Harry Kirk Denler, Michigan Law School 1948?) has written his name quite neatly in gold ink above author's name to red front board. Full color jacket is also "very good," with some minor cuts to head and heel of jacket spine. (Charming jacket illustration shows our young aviators -- armed only with axes as they're interrupted clearing a downed tree trunk that blocks their takeoff -- about to be attacked by a swarm of spear-wielding indigenous characters who appear to be clad in . . . grass skirts?) Glossy B&W frontispiece, no internal illustrations. Tiny bookseller's sticker to rear pastedown indicates this book originally sold at Hudson's Book Shop, Detroit. Purportedly by the author of The Hardy Boys adventures, though in fact Dixon was a "house name" of the Stratemeyer Syndicate, in this case reportedly used by one Frank Duffield. The Ted Scott adventures reportedly outsold Leslie McFarlane's Hardy Boys series by a good margin, during their early years. Boys' juvenile series adventure. 214 pp. followed by 6 pp. publisher's ads. Reduced from $77. Seller Inventory # 008253
