About this Item
8vo. (21cm) vii, 344, 32 pp. Publisher's original green cloth, slightly soiled with yellow Mudie's Select Library label affixed to the front board and inside. Repaired one inch tear to the head of the spine. Half-title, titlepage lettering framed in brown. Text pages slightly soiled in places, mainly finger marks and the odd pencilled line. A solid copy, not the smartest. Dorothea Conyers wrote numerous popular Anglo-Irish novels about hunting and country pursuits, eg. "A Mixed Pack". She married the younger son of the Conyers family of Castletown Conyers, Co. Limerick and became a lively member of the County hunting set, who considered her "fast" for smoking. In all, her output amounted to a novel a year between 1900 and 1950, mostly about hunting people, garrison officers and horse dealers. Such was her charisma that Anthony Powell featured her in his "A Dance to the Music of Time" series. Her husband was lost in the sinking of the Lusitania in 1915. Seller Inventory # 8110
