Sibley and Newton Edmunds, ratified on March 5, 1866, and proclaimed by President Johnson on March 17. The Sans Arc band agrees to abide by the authority of the U.S. government, cease any hostilities (against other tribes as well as U.S. settlers or traders), respect trade routes, and move from any land designated as an "overland route" for the ripe bounty of $30 per year for each lodge or family. Those who settle down to agriculture are offered another $25 yearly payment. This is one of a large number of treaties made with a variety of tribes by Andrew Johnson's administration in the years immediately following the Civil War. EBERSTADT INDIAN TREATIES 130.
