8vo. 5.5 x 8.75 inches. No pages of letterpress. Illustrated by two page hand coloured Map of the Rhine from Cologne to its Source at front, engraved vignette title and by 62 engraved plates, drawn by Tombleson. Bound in cloth patterned with stripes, decorated by blind stamping with gilt title on front board. All edges gilt. Some wear to extremities and foxing of plates largely confined to margins, otherwise a good copy. Signature on front pastedown. William Tombleson (1795-c.1846) was a topographical and architectural artist and engraver. His Rhine views appeared in various formats and series, including some with accompanying letterpress commentary by W.G. Fearnside. Some of these were published by his own company.
