New edition, thoroughly revised and re-written by W. Butt, for many years Hon. Secretary of the Royal Toxophilite Society. A new edition of Ford's original work which first appeared in the 'Field' and were then republished in book form in 1856, with a second edition in 1859. Medium 8vo (9.5 x 6 ins) pp x + 296. Engraved frontispiece, with clear tissue-guard, of an archer in action with the facsimile signature of Horace Ford below. One photographic plate ('Major C.H. Fisher, Champion Archer for the Years 1871-2-3-4'.) and 28 text illustrations, mainly plans & diags. Titlepage printed in red and black. Publisher's dark green cloth with gilt emblem of the Toxophillite Society to front cover and gilt title to spine. Tips of corners rubbed and some light wear to cap of spine. An about Fine copy. Ford was the founder of modern scientific archery, holding the Champion's medal for eleven years in succession (1849-59). Seller Inventory # 16255
