Statius, Publius Papinius. Sylvarum libri V. Achilleidos libri XII. Thebaidos libri II. Orthografia et flexus dictionum graecarum omnium. [the title page actually has a typo: The Sylvarum has five books The Thebiade twelve, and the unfinished Achilliade two books. The second work is the Thebiade. Venitius in Aedibus Aldi et Andreae Soceri, mense Januario M.D.XIX. 8vo. 294 + [2] leaves (colophon and Aldine device). Italic type. Aldine anchor device also on title. 19th century gilt-stamped Morocco, all edges gilt, marbled end-papers. Spine leather has browned with age. Wear at hinges and one corner. Light foxing on the first few leaves, most leaves clear and white. This is the second Aldine edition, published when the press was run by Andraea Torresani di Asolo, , Aldus Manutius former partner and father in law. The second leaf is a letter from Andrea s son Fransiscus to the brothers Pasqual and Domitian Marini claiming that this edition is more accurate than the 1502 edition. Adams S-1672; Isaac 12889.
