Parkhurst at the Bible and Three Crowns, London, 1705, 180 pp, collated, complete, contemporary half leather, 6 x 3.75 , 18mo. In fair condition. Bound in handsome half leather binding with marbled boards and fresh end papers. Sturdy and presents well. Binder s ticket in rear Bound by Starr Bookworks in Apache Junction, AZ. Light toning to end papers at edges. Minor wear to extremities. Lovely spine with gilt thistle stamps on each compartment and four raised bands. Repair to title at right edge, repair to first leaf of preliminary right edge, torn top edge with loss at contents leaf, irregular edges at 45-48 pp, possible old hand ownership on page 60 of Abraham (illegible) Hoffman (?), repair of tear at leaf 98, tear with loss at 117-118 pp, tear at 120 pp no loss, repair at bottom corner of 175-180 pp with minor loss of text. Numerous instance of marginalia in old hand. Binding remains intact. Please see photos. Scarce treatise on heavenly entry by Joseph Alleine (1634-1668). Alleine was an English Nonconformist pastor and author of many religious works. After the Uniformity Act of 1662, Alleine was ejected from being a minister, which prompted him to travel preach, later landing him in prison. The Sure Guide to Heaven had enormous circulation.
